Stop cycling on the prom footpath
There is a cycle lane. It is two metres to your left. It is very good. Use it.
We want to be reasonable about this. We’re pro-bike. Some of us own several. The prom cycle lane is wide, smooth, well-marked, and — this is the part that matters — separate from the footpath, which is full of dogs, toddlers, anglers carrying rods sideways, and people watching the river instead of the traffic. That’s what it’s for. That’s the whole point of a promenade.
So when a peloton in matching kit comes through the footpath at 30 km/h shouting “coming through”, the problem is not that walkers failed to maintain lane discipline. The problem is that you are on the pavement, on a bicycle, next to an empty cycle lane that cost actual money.
This concludes the rant. Normal service resumes next post. The cycle lane, once more, is two metres to your left.
